about

Thinking Back, the second album by Matt Jasper, was recorded in 2001 and released in 2002 in New York and New Jersey, with approximately 100 CDs manufactured in a limited pressing by For The Records, a vanity label of Matt Jasper.

The majority of albums sold out by 2003, although a two remaining alternate pressings with the "wrong baby picture" of Matt's brother listing on the back cover still exist (replacing the main back cover of a three year old Matt Jasper smiling in a tuxedo). In 2012, all remaining copies of the album's inventory, with the exception of the two alternate pressings were destroyed when Superstorm Sandy flooded Matt Jasper's parents house, and the back catalog of albums on the floor of his childhood bedroom were damaged beyond repair from the flood.

Out of the remaining two CDs, Matt Jasper digitally restored the album in 2018, with the help of KEXP and the University of Washington's audio archival team, to be able to save these files as high quality Wavs for future release. On the 19th anniversary of the album release, Thinking Back is finally available digitally for the first time, exclusively on Bandcamp.

PS. Here's two fun facts for the second album Matt Jasper recorded and released:

Fun Facts:

1. The working title of this record was originally "Just Like Pancakes" as a comment from Chris Hill when Matt mentioned his next project was coming out shortly after his debut album, he mentioned that Matt was "cranking them out just like pancakes".

2. This was the second album released under Matt Jasper's last name only. When he played a Long Island gig in 2004 at a venue called Someplace Else, and his fans traveled to Munchaba Lounge (also a venue he played regularly at on Long Island) when a band of the same name was booked there on the same night, he decided to formally go by his first and last names for music purposes therafter.
